Marcellus Shale Production Swells
In the first half of 2013, the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania produced 1.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, representing a 57 percent increase compared to the first half of 2012. Cabot Oil and Gas (NYSE: COG) and Chesapeake Energy (NYSE:CHK) are taking charge by leading production efforts. With 7 of the top 10 wells in the Marcellus Shale, Cabot currently holds some of the most productive wells. Chesapeake has the highest number of wells (about 800), and has led overall production so far this year.
